Okanagan Show Winners at Great Vancouver Mustang Association Roundup
Two of our club members were winners.
Bruce & Ingrid Duncan from Kamloops with their incredibly restored 1969 Mach I , Black Jade in colour, 428 CJ, shaker, spoilers etc and a feature car in our own newsletter. I first saw their car in Penticton at the Rotary Show in 2008 and what a beauty. Clearly, the crowd agrees as they wonBest Paint
Congratulations Bruce and Ingrid.
Our second club member and lifetime Okanagan Club Member and also a member of the Vancouver Club, Brian Rempel took awards for his recently restored 1969 Mustang Sports roof GT. I saw this car for the first time a few weeks back at the A & W Cruzing the Dub night. Brian and his Dad, Ed have been laboring on this car for years. It’s an extremely rare car and its basic looks understates its rarity. Brian will correct me, but I believe it is a 1 of 1 colour and option combination car. Lovingly restored. I was amazed to see the car and it is the first time in my entire connection with Mustangs going back 35 years that I have seen this combination and type of options. Well done Rempel Family on winning

Annual All Ford Show & Shine at Orchard Ford - Sunday July 12th 2009
Every year in the Okanagan fellow car enthusiast get together for the Okanagan Fords and Mustangs All Ford Show to feature cars from the Ford, Lincoln and Mercury divisions.
This year is the 45th Anniversary of the Mustang at the show we will be featuring the new redesigned Mustang. We are expecting approximately 100 new and old classic cars from Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon featuring Fords, Mustangs, Shelby’ Mustangs, Lincolns, Mercury Cougars, Thunderbirds, Galaxie 500’s, Fairlanes, Model T’s and vintage trucks from the 40’s 50’s and 60’s and through to the new 2010’s.
Have you ever noticed how old stuff is gaining popularity and value? The Baby Boomers are retiring in the Okanagan and they are buying vintage vehicles and just about anything to do with their youth.
For instance a 1967 Mustang that cost $3000 back in the day can easily cost $40,000 today. So while baby boomers and present day car owners remember the good old days with cheap gasoline, they love the old muscle cars and the Wow factor that was present in the design of older vehicles.
With the redesign of the Ford Mustang in 2010 the car enthusiast has moved on to a whole new generation of drivers who love the old cars but enjoy the power and reliability of the new cars.
Refreshments will be served by the Lions Club. Door prizes and draws for show participants and a variety of show vendors that will interest Ford enthusiasts.
Hosted by Orchard Ford (Highway 97 & Leathhead) Kelowna, BC

Ford F150 E/C Stage 2 Roush - Feature vehicle of the Month

In 2002my wife and I had order a new car from Key West Ford in Newestminster. When we arrived to pickup her new car, sitting in the showroom was a new Bright red 2002 Ford F150 e/c Stage 2 Roush edition.
I sat in it and said to my wife, MAN!! WOULD I LIKE TO HAVE A JACK ROUSH BUILT TRUCK!! My wife replied!! GET OUT OF THERE, YOU HAVE ENOUGH TOYS!!!!!
Fast forward to the summer of 2005.My sister wanted me to go look at a Mustang GT convertible at Kelowna Volvo. We got to the dealer ship and they were closed, but the mustang was there and we looked it over. Now I glanced over to Kelowna Toyota lot and my eye caught a bright red lowered f150. I walked over to have a look and there was this bright red 2002 Ford F150 E/C Stage 2 Roush.
I looked at the info sheet on the window and the mileage was only listed as 3300. Kilos. Well curiosity kills the cat and the next day I went to the dealership, walked into the show room and said to the first salesmen I saw, what’s with the Roush? He replied, you know what a Roush is? Yep, I replied so we went and looked at the truck and I asked about the Kilos as a 3 year old truck should have 33000 kilos on it and he said this was the true mileage. He informed me that the original owner had bought it in early November of 2002 from the Roush dealership in New Westminster Key West Ford.
I looked at him and said I SAT IN THIS TRUCK THE FIRST DAY IT WAS IN THE SHOW ROOM!! He looked at me and told me to listen to the rest of the story. The original owner was bringing the truck back to Kelowna, he was travelling over the connecter and hit some black ice. He was able to save the truck but his wife following him in the family car went into the ditch.
He went to see if his wife was ok and she was, so they called for a tow truck. The owner and his wife were standing well off the howdy when another vehicle hit the same patch of ice and slid off the highway striking the owners wife and tossing her into the rear bumper of the truck, killing her instantly. He had tried to keep the truck but had bad memories for him so he just traded it off. So I ended up purchasing the truck anyway.
Now fast forward to late November 2005.I am a H.D. Field service mechanic, travelling to jobsites fixing equipment. I was at a job site on the Westside and the owner of the piece I was working on came over to see how things were going. I noticed he had a few old fords in his yard and we started to chat about cars. He asked me what I had. I told him it was a rare truck fairly new. He asked what kind? I replied FORD ROUSH. He looked at me and said the red one? Surprisingly I said YES. He looked at me and said IT WAS MY BEST FRIEND THAT HIT THAT GIRL AND HE HAS NOT BEEN THE SAME SINCE THE ACCIDENT. I was in a state of shock. I told him how I had ended up with it and he told me that truck was meant to be mine from the day I sat in it.
But what a sad set of circumstances to end up owning it.

1966 Mustang Coupe GT - George Leggett - Feature Car of the Month
Okanagan Mustangs and Fords - Donna and George Leggett Kelowna BC
1966 Mustang GT Coupe
This is the Mustang that I bought at Medicine Hat, Alberta. I remember my wife, Donna, and I going into the Ford dealership and picking out the model, color and options.
The car is a Dearborn build and we took delivery of the car on April 11, 1966. The car was driven for 10 years mostly by Donna driving to and from work with a few trips thrown in. After 10 years of prairie driving in snow and salt roads it started to show signs of rusting in the usual places of those first generation cars and so it was parked on my wife’s family farm for 28 years.
Not until I retired did I start working on it. I at first just wanted to get it running to have a last driving fling, but as I got into it the “getting it just running thing” turned into a rotisserie concourse restoration.
Many hours were spent just doing research to make sure the parts were correct and the fasteners were as original. After over 3200 hours and 7 years the car is just like it was when I accepted it from Reidy Ford, Medicine Hat.
This is a Coupe GT. Out of all the Mustangs built in 66, only 50,000 were coupe GT’s. There is 28000 original miles and during the rebuild I was able to refurbish about 75 percent of the original parts.
It has the 289 4V code A engine with the Ford top load 4 speed transmission and a 300:1 third member rear end. The color is Tahoe Turquoise Code “U” and the interior is white and turquoise with the “pony interior” including the rally Pac and full length console.

1965 Mustang Convertible - Michael and Margret Thomas - Okanagan Feature Car of the Month

My wife Margaret and I are originally from Manitoba and for the past twenty-two years have lived and worked in Calgary. A few years ago we realized Calgary was getting too big and the weather is very volatile so you can't plan Mustang trips well.
So, we looked for warmer pastures in Canada to retire too. Long story short, we love the Okanagan (Wine country and all) and 5 years ago purchased our retirement property. A few months ago, post retirement we moved to Kelowna and are absolutely loving it here. We currently own 3 Mustangs (have owned seven in total) and like cruising in our cars. They are a 1965 Mustang Convertible, 1970 Mustang Mach 1 and a 2006 Shelby GT Hertz.
Our work in Calgary included my working in the Pharmaceutical business and Margaret managed our Rental properties. We are looking forward to meeting all of you in the near future.
About Our - 1965 Mustang Convertible
1965 Mustang Convertible with 90,000 original miles was sold through Healy Motors in Edmonton, taken to Victoria, brought back to Innisfail in the 90’s by the original owner and parked in a heated garage for several years. I am the 2nd owner of this original 289 car.
It came from the factory with many options including Factory console, AM radio (working), 289 CI engine, 14 inch wheels, optional wheel covers, electric convertible roof, floor mats, electric windshield washers, and back up lights. This car was built September 14, 1964 and still has several 64 parts (e.g. 2 speed heater).
I have owned this car for over 8 years and have continued to upgrade the car. Options added include passenger side mirror, fog lamps, trumpeter dual exhaust, 4BBL carburetor, engine dress up kit with inscribed valve covers, Monte Carlo bar and most importantly a dual master cylinder to upgrade the braking system.
Other items include the trim on the leading edge of the hood, the rocker panel chrome moldings and a ralleye pac with a working clock and factory correct Rangoon Red paint job which contributed to this car winning the outstanding in class trophy at the 2005 World of Wheels in Calgary.

1971 Mustang Boss 351 Clone- Richard Tremblay
Okanagan Mustangs and Fords - Club Member - Richard TremblayIn 1971 Fords reign of "Total Performance" was rapidly drawing to a close, but something was still kicking in its muscle car stall: the 1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351.
Based on the redesigned Mustang Sports Roof the new Boss was built to qualify a Trans Am counterpart, a purpose rendered moot by Ford's late-1970 retirement from most forms of organized racing. The upside was that the Boss 351 was probably the only 1971 performance car with a genuine competition-grade engine.
Unfortunately, it had to saddle up the biggest Mustang ever. Wheelbase for the 1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351 was up one inch, and the car gained 2.1 inches in overall length, 2.8 inches in width, and put on about 100 pounds. Its styling was influenced by the last of the Shelby models, which didn't survive into '71. That left the Mach 1and Boss 351 as Mustang's similarly styled performance flag bearers.
Mach 1's top engine was the 429-cid Super Cobra Jet Ram Air. Its credentials were strong -- 11.3:1 compression, 375 bhp, 450 lb-ft of torque -- but its low-14 second ETs were slower than those of the Boss 351. The Boss had on its side less weight and exclusive use of a thoroughbred 351-cid V-8 that Car and Driver said made the "Z/28 look like a gas Mileage motor."
Its rods were shotpeened and Magnafluxed and its heads, drawn from the Boss 302, had staggered valves and huge ports. It had a radical, solid-lifter cam, 11.0:1 compression, a 750-cfm four-barrel, and an honest 330 bhp. Ram-air induction, a Hurst-shifted four-speed, and a 3.91:1 Traction-Lock diff were standard.
The engine, remarkably tame on the street and a dervish on the track, teamed with a "competition" suspension that used F60Xl5 tires. Ultimate cornering power was high, but the car was ponderous and nowhere near as balanced as a Firebird Trans Am.
Moreover, the cave-like cabin was frustratingly difficult to see out of, the ride was harsh, and the gauges and controls were poorly designed.Mustang had gone from quarter horse to Clydesdale and its best version, Boss 351, lasted just one season. It was a fitting finish to Total Performance.

1969 Mustang Mach 1 - Okanagan Feature car of the Month
1969 saw a new $3139 intruder into Shelby-Mustang territory, the Mach 1 fastback. This packed a 351 V-8 with dual exhausts, handling suspension with styled-steel wheels and white-letter Goodyear Polyglas tires, reflective i.d. striping along the body sides and around the tail, pop-off gas cap, and a matte-black hood with simulated air scoop and NASCAR-style tiedowns. A separate rear spoiler was available. So was a new "shaker" hood scoop, so-called because it attached directly to the air cleaner through a hole in the hood, vibrating madly for all to see. Also on the standard-equipment list were racing mirrors, high-back bucket seats, center console, the Rim-Blow steering wheel, and the Grande's pseudo-teak interior accents.....Click Here
